Challenge #1: Weak teamwork
Decisions don’t stick when people don’t feel heard. We mistake silence for agreement. Real consensus requires trust, curiosity, and willingness to work through differing views, not just nodding and moving on. (See my article Getting to Done: Improving Team Collaboration)
Challenge #2: Lack of focus
Even when meetings have a purpose on paper, we often drift. Without clear facilitation and a shared commitment to the outcome, conversations wander.
Challenge #3: Avoiding prioritization
When no one’s willing to make a difficult decision, we get stuck. This happens at every level: across teams, inside teams, even within individuals. And it creates the illusion of progress when we’re really just delaying it.
How to Shift This in Your Context
You don’t need to overhaul your calendar. (Well, maybe you do.) But you need to look at:
How your team makes decisions
How your meetings are facilitated
How your organization creates alignment and focus
Improving in these areas creates a ripple effect. Fewer follow-ups. More clarity. Actual movement on what matters.
